He believes that food is an essential fuel for love, and the love of food is mankind's most primeval desire.
An admirer of global culture and an itinerant by heart, throughout his decade-long writing career Chriswan Sungkono has delved into a vast variety of topics, from postmodern literature and marine ecology to tribal arts and extreme gastronomy. In the name of journalism (and curiosity) he has sampled some of the world's strangest, weirdest grubs, and when he's not at it, he spends his free time roaming the urban jungle's collage of cafés and cinemas. He is equally energized by Vietnamese cooking as by vivid storytelling. His musings and mullings have been published in the Jakarta Post, Asian Geographic, Esquire, Dewi, and Tempo, among others. He believes that food is an essential fuel for love, and the love of food is mankind's most primeval desire.
